Bronze medal match - La Trobe Uni vs University of NSW

- - LTU 7 def UNSW 5 - -

Well done on third place! Pictured are Green and Gold winners Albert Zorzanello, Bardhi Hysolli and Matthew Simjanoski with coach Ivan.

After winning the Bronze Medal at the Australian University Games in Sydney attaining third place at the highest level of Men’s University Football, a team of talented players certainly disappointed of not winning the Gold Medal, plans are already on the way to replace those that have completed their final year and if possible to strengthen the team with an aim to achieve a level higher than in 2014.

As well as finishing with a Bronze Medal, 3 ( the most of all Universities ) of our LTU Men’s Team members Albert Zozarello, Bardhi Hysolli and Matthew Simjanoski  were selected in the Green and Gold Team which is a team of 11 best players of the all 18 teams 340 players participating at the Australian University Games.

For some photos go to     https://www.facebook.com/LTUunigames

Any students Male or Female currently studying at LTU that play Football ( Soccer ) that are interested in representing the LTU should contact me and register their interest for Southern University Games and AUG asap and if you know of other students that may be interested do pass on my contact details and or advise me of theirs. The team for the SUG will start trials in January and team finalised by end of march, those wanting to take part in the AUG on the Gold Coast in 2015 should trial and take part in the SUG which will be during semester break first week in July. The AUG will be end of September / first week in October also during semester break and at the end of the FFV season. Preference for the AUG will be given to those that participate at SUG.

If you play Club Football Taking Part in SUG / AUG will not interfere with your club Football you can take part in SUG / AUG even if you are playing at a FFV Club.

LTU Ladies team also had a good AUG tournament narrowly losing out to USYD in the quarter final and missing out on a medal playoff. USYD have been the Gold Medallists at AUG for the last 6 years.

Same as with the Men’s Team all Ladies interested in representing LTU at SUG and AUG or know others that may be interested should register their / your interest asap.

 LA TROBE UNIVERSITY SPORTS

AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY GAMES

Queensland, Surfers Paradise

SAT 28 September – SAT 5 OCTOBER 2013

PARTICIPANT GENERAL INFORMATION No 1

GAMES: This year, the Games are being held in Surfers Paradise, Queensland and again over 40 Universities and 6000+ students will be gathering to compete in this great University sporting event.

La Trobe Sports is the authorising body for organising and registering teams/individuals participating in all AUS events and we facilitate this process to ensure La Trobe is represented appropriately, that all students have an opportunity to participate in the most cost effective, safe and exciting sporting events. La Trobe students across all Campuses maybe eligible to participate in AUS events.

The aim of participating in the University Games is to achieve sporting performance and the best possible outcome for your team and the University. All students are to represent La Trobe at a consistently high level for the duration of the Games. There is a social element to the Games, but that is incidental to achieving the best possible result.

Note that interested students must attend at least ONE training session to be considered for selection in a team. La Trobe Sports can assist students from Regional Campuses to attend this initial training session.

SPORTS: Athletics, Australian Rules Football, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket, Cycling (road race; pairs/individual time trial; criterium), Fencing, Football, Futsal, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kendo, Lawn Bowls, Netball*, Rowing, Rugby Union 7’s, Sailing (team), Softball, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Touch Football, Taekwondo, Tennis, Ten Pin Bowling, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Water Polo

La Trobe will be participating as one team and representing La Trobe University at the Games. This means all team members must abide by and agree to all arrangements and any directions given by staff of the University. The Coach and Sports Manager will be responsible for the final selection, which will based upon the highest skill level available to form the best competitive team and to perform to their best ability.

Participants in individual sports must meet AUS individual criteria/qualifying times prior to being considered for selection. Where appropriate, participants will be requested to provide verification of official competition times.

ACCOMMODATION: It is a policy that all participants must stay as a team in accommodation organised by La Trobe Sports and alternative arrangements will not be permitted. La Trobe has organised self-contained apartments at Mantra Ledgens, Surfers Paradise, who are familiar with our requirements. In addition, participants will be required to leave a bond per room via visa credit card and complete Hotel forms acknowledging terms and conditions and proof of identity. The accommodation has been booked from 28 September – 5 October.

TRAVEL

MEL/QLD: All team members will be fully responsible and accountable for all aspects of travel arrangements to and from the Gold Coast and once team lists have been submitted by the Sports Manager and approved, team members can proceed to make travel arrangements, which then must be verified by the Sports Manager. Team members can seek transport from airlines, train or bus and we strongly discourage student from driving personal vehicles due to fatigue, particularly on the return trip. Transport from the airport to the Hotel and return must be organised by team members.

SPORTS VENUE

TRANSPORT Participants will be using the transport system that has been organised by AUS to transport teams to sports venues. This will include Gold Coast public transport services. It is recommended that participants do not drive R.Cirillo C&RM Page 2 Enquiries: 03 9479 2973 28/06/2013

their own or hire vehicles whilst participating in the Games due to issues of personal safety, unfamiliarity of the host City and late arrivals for matches, potentially resulting in forfeits and fines. There is currently substantial road works occurring on the Gold Coast which will cause significant delays and the benefit of using local transport system.

ELIGIBILITY: See AUS website for detailed eligibility criteria and all team members must present current student ID card and proof of age card. If you have recently completed studies in semester 1 or suspended studies for semester 2, you are not eligible to compete.

COST: The cost of participation is $180, paid to La Trobe and a $300 subsidy per team member has been factored in the cost,

Hotel accommodation with breakfast, one team breakfast, two team dinners and official La Trobe polo top and drink bottle.

In addition, team members will pay the following directly to AUS upon online registration:

AUS registration fee for sports - $170

AUS registration fee for individual sports – Kendo, Judo, Taekwondo - $140

Transport pass – required - $50. Must be purchased online at point of registration

Opening ceremony pass – optional - $45. Must be purchased online at point of registration

When selected in a team, you will be required to pay 30% of total cost. This will be considered a nomination fee. This must be paid within 5 days. Payment of the fee acknowledges that you are aware of your selection, your willingness to participate and agree to the terms and conditions of participation. The nomination fee will be deducted from the total payment. If you don’t pay the fee by the due date, you will be considered as turning down the selection and the Coach and Sports Manager will be requested to nominate a replacement.

If less than half of the team fails to pay the deposit by the due date, La Trobe Sports will not register the team to participate in the AUG. This means all team members must abide by the deadlines. Participants may also incur additional costs for replacement player fees, cross accreditation and any other fees charged by AUS after the close of registration.

REFUNDS: The nomination fee will only be refunded if injury or a family bereavement prevents you from participating. Reasonable proof will be required if you are seeking a refund. Once the final balance has been paid, there will be no refunds to any student/s, irrespective of the circumstances.

WITHDRAWALS If a team withdraws from the Games after the close of registration, the team shall be required to pay La Trobe Sports any fines imposed by AUS due to late withdrawal and any other costs not recoverable by La Trobe Sports.

MEDICAL FORM: All students participating in the Games will be required to complete a medical form, informing Coaches of any specific condition that must be considered in context of your participation. The information gathered is strictly confidential and will be retained by La Trobe Sports and destroyed upon return to Melbourne.

AGREEMENT TO

PARTICIPATE: If selected in a team, you will be required to ‘tick’ an AUS ‘Participation Agreement’ upon registration and a La Trobe University Code of Conduct form. Australian University Sports and La Trobe Sports will hold the signed agreement. All forms must be signed prior to departure and failure to sign will lead to team members not being recognised and accepted as part of the La Trobe AUG team and may forfeit all monies paid to date.

Should a participant/s breach the Participation Agreement or Code of Conduct, the AUS and/or the University Team Manager has the discretion to request the participant/s to leave the Games and return to Melbourne at their own cost. The participant will also be responsible for any damage or costs associated with any vandalism or breach and participant/s will be requested to pay at the AUG’s or may be invoiced upon return to Melbourne. In addition, the participant/s maybe requested to attend a meeting with AUS officials and or La Trobe Sports officials upon return to Melbourne.

We leave Melbourne on Sunday 29th September am and the last match is played on the Friday 4th October so we will be back either late Friday 4th October or Saturday 5th October.

SO we now have a little more time to prepare. We still need a few more players however we have 14-15 Girls that want to go, we can take up to 19. If you know any other LaTrobe university Students that are interested ask them to come to the next training / Trial which is on the 19th June and  17th July. Ask around at the clubs you play there may be LTU students that you didn’t know.

The question about the cost to go to AUG on the Gold Coast has not been finalised however we have fund raisers and raffles from which you could cover most of your costs. As much as I don’t like to give estimates the total cost could be anywhere between $650-$850 please don’t hold me to these figures however as I said if you made an effort you can raise most of that through fund raising and Raffles. Each person will receive up to 5 Raffle books of 100 tickets in each at $2 so it’s up to the individuals and effort put in.

Men’s Team The SUG will be a good pre run to AUG. Those that demonstrate their ability, skills effort and excellence in behaviour will be in with a good chance to be selected for the AUG. The dates and fundraising as mentioned in the details for the Ladies team applies to the men’s team. The SUG we will leave Melbourne for Ballarat about 11am and will return on Thursday after 4pm. More details to follow.

Trials

Wednesday 17th April is a very important session / trial / practice match as within a few days both the Ladies and Men’s Teams need to be selected and a decision made if we will be having a Ladies Team or not and also if we will be having 1 or 2 men’s teams.

Please be at the ground Bundoora Campus near car park 2a by 6.45pm Wednesday 17th April. Bring all your gear refer below.

There have been many students that have contacted me over the last couple of weeks that could not make it for various reasons injury or whatever. Even if you are injured ensure you are there to at least receive information and meet other team members. Even if you are playing at a club be it at the highest level ensure that you organise that you attend this Wednesday. It is Important that you talk to others that you know and get them to come on Wednesday. There are LTU students that play at A league premier league 1st Div that are eligible I don’t know them all so if you know of these people some may not be aware of the Uni Games so get them to come along.

Do read through points listed below if you haven’t previously.
